Nurturing the next generation of farmers
Apii Takitumu has built raised garden beds to incorporate agriculture learning into the school curriculum.
The school says their village and horticulture skills are just as important as reading, writing and maths.
It says growing allows them to apply their reading, writing and maths skills outside the classroom.
The agriculture programme is a pilot programme initiated by the ministry’s Advisory Services Division that’s runs in partnership with Korero O te Orau.
It provides knowledge on agriculture and the importance that it has on livelihoods.
Secretary for Agriculture, Temarama Anguna-Kamana said this programme could assist young ones to make career choices since there was a lack of knowledge and exposure on types of careers in the agriculture field.
